Hamilton, Bermuda (Tuesday, 7 September 2010) – A year after voluntarily deciding to develop and implement an environmental management system (EMS) that is consistent with an internationally recognized standard, Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (BELCO) has become ISO 14001 Certified. BELCO is the first organisation in Bermuda to be ISO 14001 Certified.

To earn certification, BELCO's new EMS had to pass an independent audit, which was conducted in July by Certech Registration Inc. of Canada. As an ISO 14001 Certified company, BELCO has committed to continuous improvement with respect to its EMS. In addition, the company must pass annual independent audits in 2011 and 2012, and will be audited every three years thereafter.
